If you are using products that are not good for your skin, then you are not doing any good to your skin. You should know what your skin’s behaviour is in its natural state to get good results, and for that, you need to know your skin type, whether it’s dry, oily, normal, or combination. For this, I am going to tell you about a home-based test that will reveal your actual skin type.

What is my skin type?

To know what your skin type is, you need to understand that every skin type has very unique, challenging needs. Skin type characteristics refer to your skin, which determines how it is going to behave with different products, changes in hormones, and weather. This includes the typical amount of sebum, which is a natural oil that your skin produces, the level of hydration, and the influence on environmental sensitivity and the skin products that you use.

As you read earlier, there are several types of skin: oily, dry, normal, and combination. And each one has its own separate skin care requirements. And it is very often the case that some skin meets the criteria, which has several categories like some of you have already heard that some people have sensitive and dry skin,n bo,th or in some cases, your skin will find that at certain periods, you have oil, and sometimes it is dry.

How many types of skin are there?

There are 5 common types of skin. Oily, dry, normal, sensitive, and combination. Let me give you the difference between them and what their characteristics are.

  1. Normal skin: it is a type of skin that is very well balanced, it’s not very dry, not very oily. This type of skin has a very smooth texture, a complexion that is very healthy looking, and small pores. This type of skin has very few breakouts and is less prone to sensitivity. This type of skin is very problematic.
  2. Sensitive skin: this type of skin is easily irritated by weather, environmental pollutants, and skincare products. Among the other skin types has a very weak skin barrier, and due to natural conditions, this skin type may react and leave redness. Burning sensation and itching.
  3. Oily skin signs: it tends to leave a lot of excess oil, which leads to a shiny appearance, especially on the forehead, chin, nose, and neck. These areas are known as the Tzone. This skin type has very large pores, and it’s very susceptible to breakouts and blemishes due to the buildup of oil and debris.
  4. Dry skin signs: Well, this skin type lacks moisture, and it often stays rough and feels very tight compared to other skin types. It may appear flaky and dull in cold climates. Harsh skincare products can make this skin type very sensitive, potentially leading to issues like premature aging, including fine lines and wrinkles. This skin type lacks moisture and a delicate balance of oil, and its slow-down of cell turnover makes it more vulnerable to damage from UV rays and pollutants.
  5. Combination skin: this skin type has characteristics of oily skin, leaving sebum at the T-zone, and it stays dry on the cheeks, and is normal on the rest of the face.

  1. Bare face method: This step is very simple; all you need is a little patience and a few steps that I am going to mention.
    • Just clean your face with a cleanser that you use and pat dry your face
    • now for 30 to 60 min leave your skin bare. Don’t apply any moisturizer, serum, or toner.
    • Now you see how your skin is behaving. If you notice this behaviour, you will know what your skin type is
      • Dry skin: flaky, rough, or tight
      • Oily skin: stays shiny
      • Combinationskin: Tzone will be shiny like your forehead, nose, and chin.
      • Sensitive skin: irritation, itching, or redness
      • Normal skin: will stay balanced and comfortable

    • You need to take a few blotting sheets, which will be small in size,e or you can use clean tissue, and you will press on different areas of your face.
    • Then you are going to hold it up against the light and check how much oil it absorbed:
      • oily skin: all paper covered in oil
      • dry skin: it will show little oil or may have no oil
      • combination skin: oil will be in the T-zone areas
  3. Look and pinch: well its very easy and practical method that will help you understand your skin type. This test only requires your fingers and a mirror. Now, what you are going to do is follow the following steps:
    • Oily skin: stand in front of a mirror and see if you have enlarged and noticeable pores, as you have oily skin
    • Dry skin: you will barely see your pores, and you will notice smoothness in your skin, but with a flat texture.
    • Combination skin: You will notice that in your T zone, the pores are visible, and rather than the other parts of your face, which are pretty much fine.
  4. Sensitive skin reaction: sensitive skin will show you results differently, as this skin type needs to be monitored due to skin reaction with different products and environments.
    • You will apply moisturizer, which is free of fragrance and mild, and you can also use aloe vera gel
    • You have to wait for 30 to 15 to 30 minutes to see how your skin reacts
      • Did you feel burning, stinging, or redness it senstive skin
      • If your skin starts to feel calm and soothing, then your skin is not highly sensitive.
